Essential Tools for Masonry Work
Installing and remodeling concrete floors can be a huge undertaking, however, with the right tools and know-how, you can safely and efficiently do it yourself. If you want to enjoy the benefits of DIY (do-it-yourself) while getting the job done right, then starting with the right tools is extremely important. Below are 3 of the essential tools every masonry enthusiast should have on hand.
Safety Glasses
Safety glasses are more than just a fashion statement. They are essential equipment that every mason should have on hand. Taking out the trash, moving bricks, or just about any other task that could result in injuries to the head or eyes, can be compromised by the lack of proper eye protection. There are many styles available, but the most important thing is that they have side protection, or side shields, to protect your eyes from debris and flying particles.
Water meter
If you are pouring your concrete on your own, using the correct water to concrete ratio is a huge advantage. You can learn this by simply using an empty bucket. Check the bucket to see how much water will displace. The amount of water in a bucket will displace the same amount of concrete if you use the right water to concrete mixture. The problem arises when you mix the concrete incorrectly, resulting in under-or-over-mixed concrete. Over-mixed concrete will not have the right strength, while under-mixed concrete will not have enough strength to last.
Trowel
Trowels are the single most important tool you will use when mixing concrete. They come in different types, including flat, spade, and yard tools that are designed for moving, scraping, and digging. The type of trowel that you use depends on the type of concrete being used. For example, with a normal concrete, you would use a flat trowel.
